Our mission

At Planet.Surf, our mission is to make the overall surfing journey simple and accessible to everyone. Our platform makes it easy for surf instructors to offer lessons directly to their students, and for surf students to get an overview, compare options & prices, and book their lessons—all in one place.

In parallel, we strive to preserve the local environments into which surfing invites us by protecting nature, supporting surfers, and contributing to the local economies.

Our philosophy is to enable surfers to spend less time planning and more time catching their perfect wave. We do this by offering the easiest way to book a surf lesson (more services coming soon).

Now surf coaches are easily accessible to their students, who can find and book them directly online. Additionally, they have a tool to organize all their bookings and business activities all in one place.

We also understand that the social and environmental footprints of surfing go beyond shredding gnarly waves. We believe in the importance of protecting local environments and supporting its communities.

We are therefore committed to making a sustainable impact by donating to social and environmental programs, creating job opportunities, and designing sustainable initiatives that support the local communities. That’s why a portion of our profit goes to selected charities that help preserve the environments of Costa Rica.

Our story

It all started in 2021 when I (Moussa, CEO & Co-Founder), made a trip to Costa Rica and, like many others, found myself wanting to learn how to surf.

Despite the fact that I was traveling in the well-known touristy surf town of Santa Teresa, booking a surf lesson turned out to be more difficult than I'd expected. Since no proper online solution existed yet, I had to ask around to figure out who was a good surf coach in my area. Once I was able to contact a coach, he let me know when and where to meet for our lesson the next day. My enthusiasm began to take a downward turn after sitting on the side of the road for 30 minutes, waiting for him to pick me up as we had previously discussed. I know, I know, life could be a lot worse than waiting for a ride in Costa Rica, but when it started to rain and the coach canceled the lesson long after our scheduled start time, my enthusiasm levels hit zero.

After one more failed attempt (same scenario, believe it or not), I eventually took a lesson with another instructor who picked me up, brought all necessary equipment, taught an amazing lesson, and shared a freshly picked coconut with me during the break—giving me a fresh dose of “Pura Vida”. This experience deserved a 5 star review, but unfortunately there was no way to write one (yet).

The many hurdles of this journey inspired me to create a solution platform where students can easily find all surf instructors in their area, see their availability, and book a lesson all in one place. Additionally, our platform gives students a chance to review their lessons and reward coaches who go the extra mile.

Since June 2022, Planet.Surf has flourished into an internationally diverse team that has made astonishing efforts to bring the platform alive. As we grow, we will continue to add services that address the daily needs of surfers, improve our ability to serve communities, and multiply our positive impact in local environments. We are eager to take on the next steps of our journey and cannot wait to share our future achievements with you. Let’s unite to experience the joy, peace, and magic of surfing together.
